If white is a mixture of all the colours of the rainbow, why can we not see them? Why are some colours said to be primary while others are not? If brown isn’t in the rainbow is it a real colour? In this talk Ben Ormerod, international lighting designer and lighting consultant to the Calico Museum of Textiles, will try to unlock some of the mysteries of colour as well as discussing his work with Gautambhai and Giraben Sarabhai at the Calico Museum.

Designing the lighting for plays, operas, musicals and dance in the UK and worldwide, Ben Ormerod has been the lighting consultant for 30 years. His work ranges from musicals in London’s West End such as The Gypsy Kings Musical Zorro and Mrs HendersonPresents which he has taken to the US, Japan, Europe, the US and Canada; dance productions in Portugal, Denmark, Holland and the US; operas at the English National Opera and Scottish Opera as well as Wagner’s Ring Cycle at Longborough Festival Opera; and hundreds of plays including productions at the Royal Shakespeare Company and The Royal National Theatre.
