Shanti Sadan houses a unique permanent gallery of India’s first woman labour leader, Anasuyaben Sarabhai.

This gallery showcases the life and works of Anasuyaben. It is a rare opportunity to exhibit a history in the same place where it occurred. Leaders such as women, trade unionists and economic activists visit by invitation.

Dr. Tumbe from IIM Ahmedabad  visited Motaben Gallery on October 28, 2023, with Dr. Anchal Malhotra. This small gallery offers unique intersectionality between labour, city, capital, and history. “Want to know more”, said Dr. Malhotra.

 

A group of labour study researchers from Rajasthan visited Motaben Gallery on July 26, 2023. “We do have a clear view on the importance of organising workers”, a researcher said.

 

A designer from Harvard University visited Motaben Gallery on July 20, 2023. “How to design less to impact more? This gallery offers key directions”, she said.

 

A journalist from Banglore visited Motaben Gallery on July 17, 2023. “I must draw the attention of Kannada-speaking women to this story of Motaben”, she said.

 

A group of women leaders from Ahmedabad, Gujarat visited Motaben Gallery on May 27, 2023. “Though Motaben is not there her ideas will help us work in Ahmedabad”, said a leader.

 

A group of agronomists from Maharashtra visited Motaben Gallery on April 29, 2023. “What is applicable in textile mills is also applicable for organising workers in agriculture”, pointed out an agronomist.

 

A group of managers from Nova Scotia, Canada visited Motaben Gallery on January 21, 2023. “There is so much to exchange between India and Canada in the field of women’s leadership”, said a manager.

19 young enthusiasts from Kathmandu, Nepal, visited Motaben Gallery on December 23, 2021. They were inspired by Motaben’s vision and work for textile workers of Ahmedabad.

The 26 women group members from Ladakh visited Motaben gallery on December 23, 2021. They were inspired by the life and struggle of Motaben to aid the needy workers.

A group of 17 young women leaders from New Delhi visited the Motaben Gallery on December 14, 2021. They were charmed by the place and the work by Motaben for the lower income labour community.

A vibrant group of 16 young women leaders from Almora District of Uttarakhand visited the Motaben Gallery on December 14, 2021. They found the idea of peaceful protest for basic income very attractive.

An energetic group of 27 women leaders from Nanded, Maharashtra visited the Motaben exhibition on December 3, 2021. They were inspired by Motaben’s life: dedication to the millworkers all her life.

Around 20 women leaders from Indore city visited the Motaben exhibition on November 24, 2021. They found Motaben’s leadership to help the needy inspiring.
